Collection Drive - Homeless Women Presentation Follow Up

As a follow up to the homeless woman feminine hygiene presentation (which had a great turnout, thank you to all who attended!), a collections drive is being held for feminine hygiene products that will be donated to homeless shelters like New Horizons or Families in Transition depending on their need for these items. There is a collection bin in the Main Office behind the desks, so just tell the secretaries you would like to donate to the homeless women hygiene drive and they will direct you! It has been decided that one hour of community or chapter service will be given for 2 donated packs of a feminine hygiene product. If the donors would like credit, put your name on the products somehow and myself or those involved with the drive will be able to sign community service forms. Thank you very much!

BulldogMUN Volunteering

Hi everyone, BHS's Model UN team is looking for student volunteers to help host our annual conference, BulldogMUN. BulldogMUN IV will be held on Saturday, April 15th from 8:30AM-5PM at school (volunteering can happen in shifts, but if you're free, stay as long as you can). We'll need about 8-10 volunteers to help carry out a range of activities like paging (passing notes in committee), copying papers, taking photographs to document the conference, and running the charity refreshment stand. This is a pretty relaxed/fun service opportunity, and we could really use your help! Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Adviser Note: I'll put this in x2VOL shortly after approving it. I hope we can staff both events, so keep in mind that we've not got Our Promise to Nicholas and Model UN going on the same day.

Week of Service: Monday

It's not a five-star continental, but remember that as part of our celebration you can stop by the library conference room Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning for a fruit, granola bar, or treat breakfast snack.

As you're doing your activities today, make a note of how much hours people are giving to your event. We'll want to start keeping a running total. Our 1,200 hours from last year is going to be tough to beat!

Important Announcement for Treats for Tails Volunteers!

For everyone who signed up to bake Monday after school: Unfortunately, there was a scheduling error with the FACS room, so this will have to sadly be cancelled. We apologize for this being such late notice!

There is still room on x2vol to go around to advisories and talk about/collect dog supplies if you need more hours!

For everyone going around to advisories: Be sure to let the advisories know that along with giving the supplies to you during the week, they can also put supplies in a box what will be located outside of the commons. You can simply place collected items in the box after getting everything from advisories. The main supplies we are looking for include dry dog food, toys, leashes and collars- there is a list on the Animal Rescue League website!

For any questions, please email Sarah at 9956580@bedfordnhk12.net. Thank you for your help!

Week of Service: Boys and Girls Club Painting Activity

Hey everyone, I am coordinating an event for WOS. It will consist of the following: 15 volunteers will transport themselves to the Manchester Boys and Girls Club (carpooling can be arranged), and will assist the kids with a painting so the kids can have some creative opportunity. We will have to brainstorm the best way to coordinate the painting, whether it be printing out pictures for inspirations or having a guided painting. Each volunteer will probably be responsible for 2 kids for the whole time so they can bond and have some fun with them, there will be about 30 kids participating. Depending on funds, each volunteer may have to pay $5 for the supplies; I will know for sure this weekend. The activity will be taking place on Thursday from 3-4:30 ish, after school. It should be pretty chill and lots of fun! Thank you!

Scholarship Opportunity

Hello seniors! For my senior project, I am hosting a film screening for my film "The Shakedowns" on Friday, May 5th at 7 pm in the BHS Library. The admission price will be 5 dollars and all of the ticket sales will go towards a scholarship awarded to either one or more students (depends on how this process goes). I thought I would open this up to all of you seniors because college is expensive and I would love to help alleviate that burden! What's great about this scholarship is that you don't need to write me an essay, get recommendations or show me your grades. All you have to do is shoot me an email and we'll set up an interview! I will be taking your requests until April 11th at 2:35 pm, so if you want a chance at the scholarship, contact me before then! The winner(s) will be announced at the film screening. Definitely consider contacting me because money is money, every little bit counts towards less student debt! Thank you! My email is 9956812@bedfordnhk12.net Hope to hear from you soon!

Tomorrow's Mini-Meeting Postponed to Friday, 7:15 am

If you haven't already heard, parking tomorrow is a major concern of the administration. NHS will need to do its part and not add to extra traffic around the building tomorrow morning.

See you Friday. If you have conflicts, let your attendance officer know. No need to ask me for permission.

Oh, and if you somehow haven't heard -- tomorrow, Seniors are parking in the Junior lot, and Juniors are asked to not drive to school.

Painting Night

Hi everyone,

I spoke this morning about a painting night that myself and Nick Corkery are running for our CAS project. It is on Friday, March 31st from 6-8 pm in rooms 117/118. It will cost $10 to paint as this will help pay for supplies, and an extra $5 if you wish to keep your painting, but our goal is for all paintings to be donated to nursing homes in Manchester in order to brighten up their walls. Any profits will be donated to Families in Transition.

There will be a choice between four guided paintings, or you can do your own thing!

Please sign up using this google form if you would like to participate in painting.

There will be 1-2 chapter service hours rewarded if you paint. If you would like to volunteer with cleaning up or supervising the event, there will be sign ups on X2VOL and 1-2 chapter service hours rewarded. Thank you!

There is a limited number (approx. 40) of spots for the painting night and signups are due by March 23rd, so sign up as soon as you can!

Half Marathon Volunteers Needed

Hi Everyone! On March 25th there is going to be a half marathon in Manchester. I'm looking for anyone who would like to volunteers to help me with water handouts and trash pick up. There can be two groups, a morning one from 7:45-10am, and afternoon from 11-1:30pm. I'm looking for around 10 people for each group. The Bedford hockey team does these races often, the work is easy and its great for individual hours! Along with the group, I'm also going to be handing out flyers to help raise awareness for my senior project, which is on hepatitis C. (If you are a part of the BHS hockey team this will not count towards your count unfortunately).

Snow Plan

Well, this is fun.

The results of the group 1 snow day alternative poll show that 67.7% of respondents wanted to wait until Thursday of next week for their meeting make-up. So, that's when the next group 1 meeting will be.

That's all well and good; however, there is more snow in the forecast for tonight.

Yeesh.

So, in the event of:

  • Normal School Tomorrow
    • Group 2 meets tomorrow, 7:15, Group 1 meets Thursday, February 23rd, 7:15
  • 2-Hour Delay
    • Group 2 meets tomorrow, 9:15, Group 1 meets Thursday, February 23rd, 7:15
  • Cancelled School
    • Group 2 meets Friday, 7:15, Group 1 meets Thursday, February 23rd, 7:15

We'd be upset if we didn't enjoy sleeping in so much.

Approved Opportunities for our Chapter

Here are three opportunities that need volunteers.

We had a technical glitch in our announcement system, so sorry for the delay.

FIT Prom Dress Collection Drive

Hi, everybody! I am a volunteer at Families in Transition, a non-profit organization that helps get homeless families back on their feet. I volunteer at the thrift store, and it's almost prom season! We are always looking for dresses to sell to the community at a lower price which allows people who may not be able to afford a dress look beautiful at their prom. In addition, all of the money that is made at the thrift store goes towards the organization to help families in the community. Thank you so much!

Please email me at 9960922@bedfordnhk12.net if you are interested in making a donation!

Next meeting: All member February 2nd

Please contact Clare if you have items you would like to get onto the February 2nd agenda. Among other things, we're already planning to do a clarification of the hours categories.

There is no meeting this week, but keep the following items in mind:

  • As far as we can tell, no action has moved forward on:
    • The Penguin Plunge or Dip
    • Kids' Vote
  • There has been some interest expressed in emails, but it is unclear if we have a single student leader (or pair of leaders) that is going to coordinate with these events
  • Dues and contracts are due at the next meeting. If it has been lost, here is a copy of the contract to sign.
